The IgCLL group started in 2003 in Stresa during the Xth IWCLL meeting, with the aim of applying standardized and consistent methods for Ig sequence analysis in CLL, based on the state-of-the-art in immunology and the most innovative bioinformatics tools.

The group soon established a working group on the same topic within the European Research Initiative in CLL (ERIC), helping to provide international guidelines for reliable Ig sequence analysis in CLL with prognostic and diagnostic purposes, and guidance in the appropriate interpretation of the results by a review board.

In 2007 the IgCLL group started organizing educational workshops for the international research community, initially annually, and from 2011 biannually. In 2010, the first relevant meeting was also organized.
